What is Infertility?

o Infertility means being unable to get pregnant after trying for 12 months or more with regular, unprotected sex. It can be due to problems in the woman, the man, both, or sometimes for unknown reasons. In many cases, the causes can be treated. Some people may need medical help like IVF (in-vitro fertilization) to conceive. Source: World Health Organization (WHO) https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/infertility

  • Sperm Blockage - The Sometimes the tubes that carry sperm get blocked, so the sperm can’t come out during sex.
  • Hormonal Problems - The body needs special chemicals (called hormones) to make sperm. If theses hormones are not balances, sperm making can stop or slow down.
  • Testicle Issues - The testicles (where sperm is made) may not work properly because of injury, infection, or something from birth.
  • Poor Sperm Quality - The sperm may be too slow, too few, or shaped wrongly- so they can’t reach or join with the woman’s egg.

Women Infertility

Infertility in women

Age is one of the most common reasons. Fertility in females starts to decline at age 30. By age 35, your body experiences a rapid decrease in eggs. Age also increases your risk of developing health conditions that affect fertility.

  • Tubal Disorders - Blockages or damage in the fallopian tubes:
  • Uterine Disorders (issues in the uterus or womb): - These problems can often be treated by doctors to improve the chances of pregnancy.
  • Ovarian Disorders - These affect both egg quality and timing of egg release.
  • Endocrine Disorders - Hormones are natural messengers that help the body release an egg each month (ovulation). If these hormones are out of balance, ovulation may not happen properly, making it harder to get pregnant.
